Do pontoon boats use less gas than a traditional boat?

I am looking for a boat that can seat 6 people. No big water. Just Erie canal use. Looking for an outboard aluminum boat for short cruises up and down the canal with the family. I have no clue as to MPG on any style of boats.|||No pontoon boats don't use less gas. If that was the case, a pontoon boat would move though the water easier that a traditional boat of the same size and weight, with the same hp motor. As far as your motor, A 60hp motor at wide open throttle would burn 6 gallons an hour. Of course if your doing short trips you wont burn no where near that. Idling around and half throttle will burn a less gas.|||There not energy efficient but are wide and for more people some have large engines and can cruise at 30 MPH. All depending on what your going to use it for.
