Where can I find a tranvilaquist doll and/or a slide for my pontoon boat, to buy, online?

I've searched everywhere for both these things and am having no luck... thanks!!Where can I find a tranvilaquist doll and/or a slide for my pontoon boat, to buy, online?
Do you mean ventrioquist doll? When I checked Ebay, they had 236 listed. You can also try this site:

As for the slide for your boat, I don't think they make slides specifically for boats. I'd try a pool store.

What is the minimum horsepower motor required for water skiing/tubing behind a pontoon boat?

my fam. use to have a poontoon with 45 hp, and it pulled ski-ers fine, but it did not pull tubing as well. if you want to have a fun ride (for example, going outside of the wake tubing) you are probably going to need a 95+ hp engine on the boat. before my family got a speed-boat, our pontoon stalled and wouldnt start because 45 hp wasnt enough to pull a tuber. hope this helps.What is the minimum horsepower motor required for water skiing/tubing behind a pontoon boat?
I would say at least a 100 hp...What is the minimum horsepower motor required for water skiing/tubing behind a pontoon boat?
how big of a boat? how heavy is the boat? boat loaded with your crew ? lots of variables involved. you don't need a v6 (good wakeboard boats have 8 cylinders)....I've only seen outboard pontoons boats. deck boats are like a pontoon but have the I/O or v drive configurations. Between 125-175HP seems to be the norm I see out on the lake. though I saw a triple decker 36' pontoon the other day screaming accross the water because it had twin 250HP pushing it.....thats power.What is the minimum horsepower motor required for water skiing/tubing behind a pontoon boat?
I would definately have a big V6 anything smaller you couldn't get someone up or go fast enough with people in the boat. if you have any more questions you can reply back.

I am looking to buy a used pontoon boat at least 20 feet long.?

Ofcourse I will make sure the boat floats and the engine runs, but are there any particular brands i should stay away? Brands I should look into? Common problems? Any advice would be great, thanks.I am looking to buy a used pontoon boat at least 20 feet long.?
1st off, unless you are a marine mechanic with experience in the specific make and model of whatever power its, you arent qualified to make sure it runs right and will continue to do so for a long time (with proper maintence).

take it to a qualified marine mechanic and have a mechanical inspection performed. its cost about $100 and it comes out of your pocket, but better to spend a $100 and find out it needs THOUSANDS in repairs without being the own stuck owning it.

and if it passes, its time for you to make sure it floats and drives right. then you can safely purchase it.

brands, to a certain point that are all the same. many of them are the same, just different names and different layouts on the same basic structure from teh same assembly line.

merc is the number one marine motor brand, for many good reasons.

i would try to find something in the 20XX years, pontoons are mostly aluminum and can last forever, but everything exposed to sun (seats and carpets) will detoriate, and the deck is usually wood which will fall apart after 2+ decades of moisture (all fairly easily fixed to create a like new boat though).I am looking to buy a used pontoon boat at least 20 feet long.?
Check local marinas or the classified ads. There are also auction sites that sell boats, but unless you can transport it home buy local.

Can I use davits to lift a pontoon boat?

I have davits behind my house i live on a salt water canal can I use the davits to lift my pontoon boat out of the waterCan I use davits to lift a pontoon boat?
It depends on the overall weight of the Pontoon boat and the "Capacity" of the Davit. Most Davits have a weight capacity of 1500 lbs. Since most Pontoons exceed this weight, it's not likely. You'll need to have a boat lift.Can I use davits to lift a pontoon boat?
I saw a guy lift his 22 ft pontoon boat with davits

But eventually the pontoon began to bend and eventually a crack formed near the back.

they said it was from the weight of the engine and the boat swinging from the davits.

He now has a system where he drives the boat onto 2 planks this supports the hull

and he lifts the boat up and sets it on a rack.Can I use davits to lift a pontoon boat?
No reason why not, as long as they are strong enough to lift the weight.

  • Can you ski on a pontoon boat?

    I know you wouldn't go fast, but can you ski / innertube / wakeboard? And by Pontoon Boat I also mean Party Boat.Can you ski on a pontoon boat?
    Yeah, of course! It's not as thrilling as it would be behind a smaller boat, but it's still possible.

    How can I build my own pontoon boat? I was thinking I could use 50 gal. drums, but where do I get them?

    You should be able to find some at your local feed mill or at some type of salvage yard. You can also try calling different factories in your area and see if they have any. most of your tool and die shops should have some. Just be sure that when you weld them together that nothing flamable has been stored in them.How can I build my own pontoon boat? I was thinking I could use 50 gal. drums, but where do I get them?
    Junior is on the right track,but even sone kind of soaps can ignite!Also if you plan on using bottom paint on them,you'll have to prime them. Good Luck!How can I build my own pontoon boat? I was thinking I could use 50 gal. drums, but where do I get them?
    This question scares the he!! out of me as did the answers given.

    Before you start building a boat check with the USCG to see what regulations must be met if there are any. Might want to check your state regulations as well.

    And please...do a great deal of research on how to build her! Can't think of anything worse than taking her out, hit a wake, have a weld break between drums and have her go down with you, friends or family or both onboard. You're definitely going to want to have plenty of safety gear on board!!!

    Consider this as a much safer alternative:

    Where can I get a pattern for pontoon boat canvas?

    We bought a 1990 28' Sun Tracker party hut. I need to find out what the canvas looked like originally. I want to make the canvas covers myself but the canvas on the boat is so shabby it cannot be used as a pattern.

    Any help would be greatly appreciatedWhere can I get a pattern for pontoon boat canvas?
    It is far cheaper to just order one from a source that makes replacements. You will get a quality canvas that most home sewing machines cannot handle. Trying to do things yourself is a great way to save money but sometimes projects need to be thought out.

    Wondering if anyone has experience in towing a 21 foot pontoon boat with a gmc canyon or chevy colorado?

    Wanting to purchase a smaller truck but also need it to pull my boat including on and off of a boat ramp.Wondering if anyone has experience in towing a 21 foot pontoon boat with a gmc canyon or chevy colorado?
    Depends on the model of Colorado you get, two 2009 models will be able to pull your boat fine. However, three other Colorado 2009 models are not capable of towing your boat.

    Please check the specs on their official Chevy/GMC web site and always require to see the max towing capacity for the particular model of vehicle you are looking at if at a dealership.

    It all comes down to research, how much time are you going to invest in finding the facts before truck shopping?

    I never have liked pulling any boat near 2,000 pounds or more with a light truck, period. I always go with a full sized truck or better for extra safety and towing power.Wondering if anyone has experience in towing a 21 foot pontoon boat with a gmc canyon or chevy colorado?

  • Should i get a 1965 mustang or a party barge pontoon boat?

    hi im 15 and i have enough money to buy either one and ive always loveddd 65 mustangs i would take one over a ferrari,and i live in tennessee near a lake and want a boat to take girls out in and have partys haha...since im 15 im going for my boating lisence and my drivers lisence so now i should decide which one i should get. please give me your opinion.Should i get a 1965 mustang or a party barge pontoon boat?
    Let's see...car...boat...car...boat...hmmm.

    Each is going to take your time and attention and some money. The Mustang will need TLC and the boat is going to need care too.

    You can use the car year round but the boat has to be winterized.

    The boat allows you to get on the water but the car will get you to the water.

    Now, think of this too. How are you going to get the pontoon boat to the water? Or launch it at a marina if stored there? Or pay for a wet slip?

    And put the thought of partying on the water every weekend out of your mind...especially with alcohol. Still underage for a few years and you sure as he!! don't want to get busted on the water for DUI.

    My answer would be to go for the car now and save for getting the boat later.

    ADDED NOTE: jtexas, since he's in TN it would be okay for him to have th party barge since he's not in your state of mine!
    Get the mustang.......Should i get a 1965 mustang or a party barge pontoon boat?
    how does a 15 year old get that kind of money??

    Mustang. You cant pick up chicks in the buick of the water.
    MUSTANG all the wayShould i get a 1965 mustang or a party barge pontoon boat?
    get the car..i done the boating thing too and it can get expensive..ya can use the car all year long..boats not fun when its cold..get a flat bottom and a trolling motor to take the gurls out..lol..jk...mustang totaly though..american muscle will get ya more chicks
    parts for the mustang will be more expensive,and harder to find or fabricate, but it'll get better gas mileage.

    the barge will be so much more comfortable than that back seat.

    I'm a big fan of 65 mustangs, but I'm leaning toward the barge.
    1965 Mustang

    The boat would only be fun when it is warm outside.

    The car would be fun year-round.
    I'd go with the boat.

    You're young, and JUST learning to drive.

    Most young people get in accidents, not always major ones..

    ..but you don't want to hurt a beautiful mustang, do you?

    And like I said, you're young. Get a boat for partying! =D

    You can always save up for the Mustang.
    the mustang hands down

    you can always rent a boat

    good luck renting a 65 mustang

    get the mustang!
    MUSTANG!!! I had a 65 when I was 16. Loved it. Even though I am a girl everyone was jealous. Also, unless you are always on the water get a mustang. Later you can get a pontoon for chump change. Even get one cheap and restore it yourself. A mustang is worth mor anyway. Good luck. Keep safe.

    MelStang

    MEL1965
    mustang you can rent a boat any time cant find a mustang all the time much less have a chance to own one
    Go for the Mustang!

    Had one back in the 60's.

    You can do the boating later, and it is fun too. Enjoy the car year round. save up for the boat for next summer!

    Good Luck - Drive Safe!
    You have a very hard choice but I have a 1996 mystic cobra that I bought in 1997 in now sits in the garage since I bought a 2008 22 foot Bentely pontoon boat. If you are considering a boat you would need something to pull it though. It is going to be hard later maybe to find a older car in the shape or for the price you are willing to pay for it. Therefore I have had a ton of fun in my mustang and now i have a ton of fun in my pontoon with family and friends. Get the car the pontoon will come later. Tough choice though very tough.

    Drain Holes in Pontoons on a Pontoon Boat?

    My Father-in-law drilled holes in the bottom at the back of the pontoons on his boat. Last weekend we tried to take the boat out but it seemed to sit too low in the water. He put screws in the holes with rubber washers to plug the holes. If the holes are not air tight will air be forced out of the screw holes when we put the boat in the water? When we unscrewed the screws it seemed to suck air in, is this possible? Any hints or knowledge shared would be greatly appreciated.

    ThanksDrain Holes in Pontoons on a Pontoon Boat?
    Pontoons are not only airtight, but also pressurized.

    Pull all the plugs and have a qualified technician pressurize the toons, and seal with aluminum welds.

    Why in God's name did your Father in law do this?

    Being as polite as I can be, this is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Please don't let him near the boat in the future.Drain Holes in Pontoons on a Pontoon Boat?

    Should i take my pontoon boat out for the winter?

    can it get hurt in the water in the witner time? i didn't think so sense it was metal on the bottom but a lot of people are taking theirs out of the water and i just wanted to make sure.Should i take my pontoon boat out for the winter?
    does where ever you keep the boat ever freeze over? hen yes you MUST take the boat out. Solid ice can crush a boat; even worse, thin ice in big sheets can cut the hulls open like a giant knife would, especially if the ice moves ( like on a river)

    besides, the bottom probably needs cleaning anyway, and if the boat is metal, especially aluminum, the less time in the water ands subject to electrolysis, the better.
    There is no need to take it out of the water. Put stabilizer in the gas tank. Run it for a bit and it should be fine.Should i take my pontoon boat out for the winter?
    yea, you should if you live where the water freezes in the winter. But if where you live the water doesn't get too cold, you should be fine.
    It is best to dry dock all boats over the winter if you live in cold areas of the world now if your in Florida that is another storyShould i take my pontoon boat out for the winter?
    Stabilize your fuel and run motor to get it through fuel system. Be sure and keep motor straight up and down so prop is under water. The lower unit will be less prone to freeze damage this way.
    It will be fine.
    If the water doesn't freeze, you may be OK, but if you get a "flash freeze" and ice forms, that ice will be like a hot knife through butter to those pontoons. There isn't much to a pontoon on a boat, and it doesn't take much to slice one open. Anyway, you should just eliminate all question and worry and just take it out of the water.
    you will be fine as long as you properly winterize your motor and trim the lowere unit below the waters surface
    If the water freezes yes%26gt;And the weight of the snow %26amp; ice can do damage to the hulls if frozen%26gt;
    Ice can crush a metal hull. If others are outhauling, then I encourage you to do the same to prevent damage. good luck
    if the lake freezes, then YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?

    Has it ever been done? If not, what do you recommend to somebody that wants to do it?Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?
    I seem to have read somewhere that it has been done, but I woud not recommend it. It might not be much fun.Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?
    Pontoon boats tend to be lightweight and draw very little water.

    That said, a seventy or eighty foot wave would end the crossing very abruptly.

    To the person who wants to do it, I would recommend taking out a large life insurance policy and naming me the beneficiary.Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?
    Maybe possible, but i doubt it, would take some BIG CAHONAAS. I would contact your local COAST GUARD first and take out large insurance policy and name (STUART) as Beneficary ! Better bring your A game !!!

    PS. Dont forget life Jacket and fishn pole.
    If Thor Heyerdahl did it in 1947 on Kon-Tiki, why it can be done now?

  • Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?

    Has it ever been done? If not, what do you recommend to somebody that wants to do it?Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?
    It has been done but I wouldn't want to try it. If I am going to be at sea for a transatlantic crossing I want it to be in a good solid sailboat.
    May want to stick to a sail boat or a ship with bigger fuel tanks. If needed to ask this then it is not safe for you to do.Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?
    I don't think anyone has, but my recommendation would be don't!

    The seas can be very volatile, and change in an instant, and I don't see a pontoon boat withstanding a 20 - 30 foot wave.
    Been done ....with pontoons made out of reeds even. Very wet.

    Anything is possible with a plan for storms and waves.

    Go 25 to 30 ft if possible.Transatlantic Crossing on a pontoon boat?
    i'm scared already....we haven't even left the dock.
    no!!!! are you crazy!!! think you'd like riding 20ft swells on a pontoon boat ??? you couldn't carry enough gas anyway.
    Pontoons are not designed to cut through large swells in open waters. They are designed for lakes and other small water and mostly cruising at slower speeds. They are not "planing" hulls; they displace the water as they ride through it instead of riding on top of the water at higher speeds like traditional V-hulls do, therefore reducing friction, conserving gas mileage and allowing for higher speeds. That is the kind of boat you want to cross the ocean in!

    Pontoons also generally have small fuel tanks as well which wouldn't allow for a long range of travel. The typical aluminum constuction is not designed to take the beating of large waves like a fiberglass boat would. They also typically do not have a cabin that would allow someone to take shelter from the elements.

    If someone has crossed the ocean in a pontoon, that is insane and I'm sure it was a long and rough ride.

    What is the best valued pontoon boat on the market?

    DON'T BUY A SUNTRACKER!!!! the best "value" for pontoon boats today - would most likely be Godfrey's Tuscany Line, or their Sweetwater line. How do we make our metal snaps work a little easier on our pontoon boat cover?

    You can spray them with W-D 40 or use silicate powder on them, which is more durable than spary lubricate would be. You can find it in any home improvement store in the locks and door knob sections. It is primarily used to keep commercial locks working smoothly without creating any buildup inside the mechanism. It comes in a container that will "puff" out the powder in metered amounts. I know I used this on the Sun Tarp we installed on out boat and it made it so much easier to put up and take down.How do we make our metal snaps work a little easier on our pontoon boat cover?

    Have 2 dogs that make cleaning of carpet difficult thought if just epoxy I could wash deck down.Replacing carpet on pontoon boat with epoxy finish sand for grip. Any suggestions or alternatives?
    If the wood is good and dry than epoxy paint marine will do fine just watch the sand finish not to gritty or it will wear the pads off the dogs and if U sit down it will wear your bottom. There is fine nonskid in place of sand unless it's fine fine sand.

    On average, how much does it cost to have carpet installed on a pontoon boat?

    My husband is a "do-it-yourself" kind of guy, but it is taking FOREVER to scrape the carpet off, etc. How much do marinas usually charge to put carpet on for you? By the way, we have already bought the carpet so don't include carpet cost. Thanks so much!!!On average, how much does it cost to have carpet installed on a pontoon boat?
    Largely depends on the layout and size of the pontoon deck. If the pontoon deck is properly prepped for new carpet, and ALL items removed that had carpet laid under them.

    Some upholstery and carpet dealerships perform this duty as well, make sure to get referrals and get estimates.

    I estimate somewhere at $275 to $400. Depends on how many difficult cuts have to be made to keep the carpet as one piece.

    If the pontoon deck is not properly prepped for laying marine carpet, expect to pay about $100 to 150 more for them to do it.On average, how much does it cost to have carpet installed on a pontoon boat?
    I would do the job for $200-300 hundred. depending on the size and how hard it is to deal with the old carpet.

    Can i put a electric trolling motor on personal pontoon boat???

    I've seen it done before but do i need to register it or anything like that. i have heard from a friend that has a pontoon boat also that registration is needed to put any kind of motor on a water craft. is this true?Can i put a electric trolling motor on personal pontoon boat???
    Your friend is correct.

    Every motor-driven vessel (regardless of length) that is not documented by the U.S. Coast Guard which is used or on the waters of this state are subject to registration by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This applies to private lakes, ponds as well.

    http://www.dmv.ca.gov/boatsinfo/boatreg.鈥?/a>
    na, you don't have to register the motor. when you buy the boat the boats id number just shows the make and size and year of the boat. that is all you pretty much register. if you need or just want another type of moter on your boat that is up to you. when i registered my boat it didn't matter what type of motor that i had. the registration just wanted to know if there was a motor on the boat or not. so the anwer would be no you don't have to rereigister the boat. but just incase my answer isn't 100% correct, check with your states dnr and see what the answer would be....but my opinions are based on ga dnr. good luck as long as the boat is registered put what ever you want on itCan i put a electric trolling motor on personal pontoon boat???
    yea use a 36 lb. thrust .
    yahCan i put a electric trolling motor on personal pontoon boat???
    boat registration is controled by the dmv and this is what the rule book says'

    What Vessels Must be Registered?

    Generally, every sail-powered vessel over eight feet in length and every motor-driven vessel (regardless of length) that is not documented by the U.S. Coast Guard which is used or on the waters of this state are subject to registration by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The vessel must be located in California.

    Vessels previously registered in other states must be registered in California within 120 days of being brought into the state, if it will be used upon California waterways the majority of the time.

    The term vessel applies to every description of water-craft used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water, except the following:

    A seaplane on the water.

    A watercraft specifically designed to operate on a permanently fixed course and guided by a mechanical device that restricts the watercraft's movement to the fixed course.

    A floating structure that is designed and built to be used as a stationary waterborne residential dwelling, which, (a) does not have and is not designed to have a mode of power of its own, (b) is dependent for utilities upon a continuous utility linkage to a source originating on shore, and (c) has a permanent, continuous hookup to a shoreside sewage system.

    The following vessels do not have to be registered in California:

    Vessels propelled solely by oars or paddles.

    Nonmotorized sailboats that are eight feet or less in length.

    Nonmotorized surfboards propelled by a sail and with a mast that the operator must hold upright.

    A ship's lifeboat (a dinghy is not a lifeboat).

    Vessels currently and lawfully numbered (registered) by another state that are principally used outside California.

    Vessels brought into California for racing purposes only (exempted only during races and tune-ups).

    NOTE: Commercial vessels of five net tons or more, or 30 feet or more in length must be registered (documented) by the U.S. Coast Guard.

    all that being said i've never heard of anyone geting a ticket on a lake or river on a personal pontoon boat for non reg. just me ~~~*%26lt;%26gt;{
    It depends upon what state you are in. Most of the time you have to have a boat registered due to its size or the size of the motor it has.

    You should be able to go to your states parks and wildlife webpage and look it up.
    as a trolling motor tech..... chose the right motor for the boat... if it is going on the front of the boat get one with enough power.... if its going on the rear of the boat... get Minn Kotas E-Drive... that engine has alot of power.... if your on privt. lakes you may not need to reg. anything with the state...just with your homeowner asst. however if your taking it else were from lake to lake - then you need to reg. the rig..... let me know if you need help with picking a motor...... I am a cert. tech. for Minn Kota an also Motor Guide trolling motors...... good luck........ you can email at : boat_bass@yahoo.com
    If it's got a motor, trolling or otherwise, you'll need to register the boat. Even a kayak with a trolling motor has to be registered. Go to Parks and Wildlife for info.
    Depends where you live. In Canada, it wouldn't have to be registered but, you legally need the Pleasure Craft Operator Card (easily obtainable online) as you technically do for use of any pleasure craft here including (believe it or not) canoes and belly boats too, along with a need to carry the required safety equipment!

    The only exception is if you rent. Then you can roar around in a 20' with a 200 h.p. engine, putting people at risk, and the friggin' card is not needed. No really, I'm not kidding, really!!!
    motor=registration

    they are usually wide diameter and relatively low pitch. it might be tough to find one for an older motor. try 12 1/2" X 10 or 11". if it's a 24' or longer pontoon try a 9" pitch.I need to know what the pitch would be for a 70;s 50 hp mercury motor used on a pontoon boat?
    I know the standardprop for a yamaha 50 hp outboard engine has :

    pitch 13 and diameter of prop is 11.

    Pitch 13 means :one revolution=themovement of the prop's center moves 13 inch forward.

    If the pontoon is heavy you could choose a smaller pitch(e.g.12")so you do not have to force the engine.You would lose speed and gain acceleration.I need to know what the pitch would be for a 70;s 50 hp mercury motor used on a pontoon boat?
    Any Propellor shop can tell you the pitch the spare is. I would think 14pitch would be good. You need power not speed. The higher the pitch, the more speed. The lesser pitch, the more power.

  • Thoughts on building a pontoon boat?

    I am building a pontoon boat out of a 1988 Bronco II on 20' pontoons. I am using a gear system for driving dual props. But I am having trouble devising a steering system. The pontoons are spaced wide enough that I could attach "steering boards" to the wheel hubs. But I am trying to look for a few other ideas first. any help would be appreciated.Thoughts on building a pontoon boat?
    Are you using the same steering that was in the Bronco? I guess I'm trying to picture how your Bronco Pontoon Boat will look after it is completed. Is your steering end of the Bronco facing the rear of the Pontoon?

    How to protect 18' pontoon boat for the NY winter?

    Would an ordinary waterproof cover be enough or should it be more elaborately contructed for snow/ice runoff?

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    SZHow to protect 18' pontoon boat for the NY winter?
    covered storage, tarps or covers wouldn't hold up, even a carport would work if you put a boat cover on the boat
    a garage would do itHow to protect 18' pontoon boat for the NY winter?
    To realy protect it you need to get it out of the water.For lack of a building to store it in,a well fitted tarp,canvas not plastic is the best bet.
    If stored outside, a well fitted cover should be sufficient. Remove excessive snow buildup. The weight will cause the cover to sag and hold water. You might consider some planks or plywood across, and then cover.

    Be certain to drain any water from the shaft. It can crack. Run the engine until fuel in the engine is consumed. This can be done while immersing the prop and shaft in a can of water, such as a garbage can. Maybe the oil should be drained. It will need to be changed anyway in the Spring, (unless it uses a mixture).

    Get rid of fuel left over and not use it next Spring.

    This is what I would do.How to protect 18' pontoon boat for the NY winter?
    The engine needs to be winterized if its a outboard or a inboard per manufactures standards if you are going to store outdoors I would have it shrink wrapped, I always have my boat winterized by a reputable dealer because he is libel for damages, A improper winterization can cause serious problems and be very costly Please protect your investment make the right choice
    Put the outboard inside if possible. A cover is good for the weather, but remove the excesive snoww.
    I'm on Lk Superior's SW shore and I cover my 32ft. Trojan with fly-bridge with a silver plastisized meshed tarp that's 50ft.X30ft. I place a 2X4 spliced beam from the top front of the FB down to the pulpit railing with 2 "V" frame supports under the 2X4 beam.

    The grommet's on these tarps are too weak and tear out so I use locking "tie-down" clamps every 3-4ft at the bottom. Fill 1gal plastic jugs half way with water and tie to the clamps. This will hold the tarp down well in a semi-protected area.

    So build yourself a support frame strong enough to hold the snow loads. Good luck, REEL DEAL TOO

    What kind of anchor do I need for a 21 foot pontoon boat?

    I boat in the lake of the ozarks.What kind of anchor do I need for a 21 foot pontoon boat?
    You need an 8S Danforth anchor and/or (I suggest both) a FX-7 Fortress anchor - each with about 150' of 3/8 rode and 10' of 3/16 chain. This combo would set you up very nice and professional.

    Two anchors are nice to have... 1. a second anchor will keep your vessel from "swinging around" when the wind changes direction, 2. a second anchor is good to have if you loose your first anchor.

    I have a lake front cabin on Bull Shoals. Used to keep a pontoon boat up there as well, but don't anymore... Great lake, great fishing...

    Happy %26amp; Safe Boating,

    JohnWhat kind of anchor do I need for a 21 foot pontoon boat?
    I would get two. Both led off from the bow. You really only use one, most of time, but the second is for high winds or if something breaks.

    The Rode is crucial in a proper anchor set, rode is the length of chain that attaches the anchor line to the anchor and allows it to set and stay set.

    There is a rule of anchoring or mooring is like 7/1 scope, that means that for every 1 foot of water depth have 7 feet of Anchor Line out.

    Now you need three anchors, I would get a fourth also. Use the two off the bow and maybe one off the stern to keep it from swinging.

    Those Pontoon boats are like big wind sails with no keel.

    So boat safe, anchor properly and have a backup plan as well as a float plan.

    You are in a lake, so it is not like offshore or strong currents, is till tidal and boats passing cause wakes, so stay safe and be safe for others.

    Also you may want to take the USCGAUX power boating course, Knowledge is a good thing.What kind of anchor do I need for a 21 foot pontoon boat?
    Danforth style they have them at West marine. Holding is good and stores well. if bottom it rocky than used some chain with it. 10 lb or larger should hold in light winds and light current.
    Just your regular anchor will do fine. Just buy one about 1 foot high and 1 foot wide or something within those dimensions

    A word of caution. If you plan to ONLY use the boat as a swim platform and for crusing around, it should do that well.

    However, if you intend on needing a boat to do any of the following watersports: (skiing or wakeboarding), a pontoon boat will simply NOT work, especially this model you are seeking to buy is extremely underpowered for that purpose.

    Pontoon boats perform horribly when it comes to towable watersports. A good compromise is a deck boat, a regular hulled boat that is slightly larger in size than a regular ski boat of the same length. It also has more passenger capacity than a regular ski boat as well, but about slightly less passenger capacity than a pontoon boat of the same length. Most deck boats also have a reasonably powerful drive system that provides enough HP to get around and tow people on the water well.

    At only age 28, I've accumulated a lot of experience regarding what expectations and needs are required for individuals/groups/families when going boating.

    Usually what happens is an individual or a family buys a pontoon boat thinking that using it as a swim platform and crusing around is enough. Not enough careful thought and planning goes into the "what I really expect of the boat to do now and in the future."

    So, when the kids grow up or you as the parents want to do some fast watersports, you gotta buy a different boat now or buy a powerful 3 seater PWC to go with the pontoon boat.

If you have aluminum pontoons---this might work also. Simple green comes in commercial spray bottles---all natural---and works better than Fantastic.. NEVER use any chemicals on rubber or painted aluminum. As you did not say what you are trying to scrub off--algae is easy to remove with simple green. It removes mold and fungus as well as dirt. What kind of battery is in a pontoon boat?

    Is it just a regular car batery?What kind of battery is in a pontoon boat?
    Most pontoon boats use Marine battery's. This has more to do, with the engine than the boat. the battery connections are usually ring terminals, and are made to quickly be taken off, with the wing nuts on that style battery. In addition Marine battery's are made for the more severe conditions that boats experience.
    no,, boats use Marine batteries. A marine battery has less cranking amps but extremely long running times and life times. Unlike a car battery these batteries are made to run until they go dead and be recharged without harm.

    they are extremely heavy because they have much more lead in them.What kind of battery is in a pontoon boat?
    that depends..............but definately ALWAYS USE MARINE

    PARTS............from batteries to bellows......and carbs to exaust.........yes more expensive initially..........but you can't put a price on breaking down or even worse having a fire far from shore..........marine grade parts bringing you home safe and sound...........PRICELESS

    speed is often the hardest question to answer, as there are so many variables.

    rough water, wind, weight on board and balance of weight, condition of boat and motor, condition of prop.....

    and that aint all.

    pontoons boats arent generally the fastest out there (or most agile).

    despite mostly alum construction, they are still among the WIDEST and squarest boats out there, which makes them heavy for their length.

    and 40 isnt that much power for one either (just a guess, but you are probably rated for at least 60 hp max).

    the best you can get are rough guesses, but having seen more then one pontoon in that size and power range, 20 mph give or take a couple.

    if you got a portable GPS unit, they usually say speed and are usually more accurate then the built in speedos.

    How can I stop the growth of moss on my carpeted pontoon boat deck?

    The easy and most accurate answer is to get rid of the carpet... I know, it looks nice, and it doesn't get as hot... etc. but fact is... where their is damp carpet... their is mildew - and I would bet money that what you think is "moss" is actually mildew - as it can certainly look like moss.

    There are pontoon flooring options and alternatives to carpet... Vinyl is probably your best; but, if indeed you want to keep your carpet, then I would suggest a small power washer.

    I know from experience that if you roll it up and take it off - (as the other person suggested) you will not only find that to be a pain in the you know what... you will actually have a worse problem when you unroll the carpet again. You will only do that once, and you will never use that carpet again.

    Years ago, I invested in a small Sears powerwasher. If I remember correctly it was just short of a $200 investment... and it was one of the best things I ever did for my boat...

    I tell you... I clean everthing with it - from my upper helmstation to the bottom of my hull (yes, even while it is in the water).

    I loaned it out a few times to boat neighbors in my marina, and most of them have since purchased their own. I use mine about 6 times a year on a regular basis, and maybe two or three again when something comes up and I really want my vessel to look "ship shape".

    Course, this is not a prevention for mildew (only clean %26amp; dry is that... and you won't find that on a boat; but it sure does a quick and easy job of getting it all off...

    1) Wash it regularly with a MILD solution of bleach.

    Is there any "best" material for pontoon construction?

    I am new to boating and am considering buying a pontoon boat. I live in Florida and some of the people I know are trying to discourage me saying they know of "several" pontoon boats have just "fallen" apart due to corrosion of the aluminum and where it is attached to other metals.

    Is there any truth to this and are there preventative measures one can take to avoid this? ThanksIs there any "best" material for pontoon construction?
    If you are suggesting that the kind of boats you are interested in are typically of composite and dissimilar metal construction, then there will indeed be truth in this.

    Mixing metals is a sensitive area in boatbuilding and there are a few golden rules. Principally, that dissimilar metals need to be as close as possible in the galvanic series and that fixings should be bolder - more noble - than fittings. (For example, stainless steel bolts to fasten galvanized deck fittings, etc.)

    But if the construction itself is of metal it is best to keep to the same type for the whole vessel.

    In other words, if the hull is aluminium, then so should the decks and superstructure be, also.

    It is because dissimilar metals in a saline environment set up a galvanic 'cell': an electrical current flows between the more noble (cathode) and the base, or active (anode) of the metals present - which will fizz! It is called 'galvanic action' or galvanic corrosion.

    The magnificent 'J' class yacht 'Defender', designed by the great Nat Herreshoff and winner of the America's Cup in 1895 had a huge bulb of lead for the keel, a hull of tobin bronze and an aluminium deck!

    Having successfully won the cup, Defender actually self-destructed, corroding away in the next couple of years because of intense galvanic action.

    -|--)Is there any "best" material for pontoon construction?

    Is there any "best" material for pontoon construction?
    By the way, many people (and sites) refer to galvanic corrosion incorrectly, as 'electrolysis'. Electrolysis is a much more aggressive form of electrical corrosion and is caused by active current leakage to the vessel (say, from a dockside) or within the vessel herself: poor electrical installation.

    Report Abuse

    Most are constructed of aluminum. And yes aluminum does corode as does steel. You are pretty much limited by what is on the market and how much time you wish to invest in upkeep or your investment - your boat. If they just fell apart I'd say it was a use and don't care method of upkeep by those owners.

    Take care of your boat that is preventative - rise it off when remove from the water and inspect the structure.

    Would I be able to pull a 20 foot pontoon boat with my 02 grand caravan?

    I want to purchase a boat, But i'm not sure if the van can handle it.Would I be able to pull a 20 foot pontoon boat with my 02 grand caravan?
    Depends on how your Caravan is equipped. If you have the 4 liter engine and 6-speed automatic transmission with the factory towing package, your Grand Caravan is rated to tow up to 3800 lbs. That's the total combined weight of the boat, trailer and everything in it.

    If you have a smaller engine or no factory tow package, the car can only tow 1000 lbs. You could possibly get away with towing a bit more weight on short trips but it will not be as safe as using a stronger vehicle.

    Front-wheel drive vehicles are notorious for having problems pulling a boat/trailer out of the water at the boat launching site too.

    what year motor?

    First, seafoam is good stuff, I add it to my fuel tank, but it will not dry fuel. there is no additive that can make good fuel out of bad fuel. Fuel drying products are mostly methanol, which is like ethanol only worse. They're ok for cars, but don't burn it in your outboard. I'm surprised that a NAPA parts guy would recommend it, they usually know better than that.

    Check the fuel, if it has water in it, the fix is simple: siphon out the tank and refill with fresh 87 octane gasoline. Don't forget the oil if that's a premix motor.

    If the fuel is ok, post another question for the next troubleshooting steps. Cracks in a coil don't mean it's not working -- there's a test for that, but let's save it for later, I'm tired of typing. :)I have a pontoon boat with a 50 hp johnson motor and when I try to accelerate the motor misses?
    Check your spark plug wires resistance, spark plugs for fouling, and if that fails add Seafoam fuel additive to your fuel to dry it out.

  • How do i dock my pontoon boat in windy weather?

    When its windy I can get the front to touch dock easy, but stern blows away from dock. Is there a trick to this?How do i dock my pontoon boat in windy weather?
    If you have a small pontoon boat you can dock the boat by approaching the dock bow first. slow down as you approach. if you have capable crew on board have them jump from the bow to the dock with the bow line and tie the bow line to the dock with enough slack in the line to pivot the boat. after the bow line is secured. if you have a line led from the stern of the boat on the outside of the boat and led to the bow , then the crew on the dock can reach this line and walk it along the dock to a point where you would normally tie the stern line to and pull the stern side of the boat to the dock. once the crew member has control of the stern, the motor can be shifted to neutral.

    if you use this method, make sure that the stern line that has been led to the bow, is secured so that it cannot fall into the water and fowl the prop.

    This is an alternative to simply tying off the bow and turning the engine toward the dock with the motor running in reverse. some pontoon boats smaller OBs lack enough thrust in the motor to back a boat

    against the wind.How do i dock my pontoon boat in windy weather?
    If you have someone on a bow line the best method is approach at about 30 degree angle. catch a line to dock from bow. Do not tie it but hold loop. As that is happening turn toward dock, reverse engine and pull stern to dock.

    If alone, approach dock at minimum angle, catch stern line to dock and turn away from dock and reverse engine. This will pull bow to dock pivoting on stern line.How do i dock my pontoon boat in windy weather?
    I understand. It is very difficult to dock a pontoon in the wind.

    You really have to judge the wind strength and not be afraid to use the throttle.

    Wakeboard or ski behind 90hp pontoon boat?

    My family recently purchased a 20' pontoon boat with a 90hp yamaha. I was wondering what a boat like this could pull. Can it handle a wakeboard, or is that too much drag? I weight 210 lbs, so I'm looking for a ride that will have little drag. Do I need to stick to a small tube or a kneeboard? What do you recommend? Thanks!Wakeboard or ski behind 90hp pontoon boat?
    You should be able to wakeboard as long as the boat can do 18-25mph, although I'm not sure about if the wake a pontoon boat produces will be cohesive to wakeboarding.

    If your really worried about extra drag, buy a Hyperlite Era or similar 3 stage board(Make sure the board is 140cm or larger(Larger==more surface area==less drag). It will sit higher in the water and pop you out of the hole a little faster.

    You can ride a wakeboard just messing around doing slides and stuff around 10-12mph, but if you want to do any real riding, you need the extra speed.Wakeboard or ski behind 90hp pontoon boat?
    Yes although it's not the ideal watercraft for eithersports, you can wakeboard or ski behind a pontoon boat, my family has a 24 ft. pontoon boat with a 90hp Merc on it , I'm 6 3 185lbs and it can easily pull me up wakeboarding and skiing, even with 6-8 people on board, so you should be able to get up without too much difficulty.Wakeboard or ski behind 90hp pontoon boat?
    yeah you can wake board behind your pontoon.

    but before you buy a board fiuger what kinnda boarder are you.

    are you a fearless go big kinnda guy.

    or are you laid back Cruise around crave alot kinnda rider.

    it depends on how your gonna ride.

    if your new to wake boarding STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM BOARDS WITH 3 STAGE ROCKERS, get a board with a little rocker like a continues rocker it ll be easy er to Handel it will have less a tendency to slide out from under you. and you ll be able to clear your wake from one side to another.

    go with a board about 137cm to 140 at the most the shorter the easy er to move and spin around.

    and if you want good deals on boards look on eBay.

    and for the best bindings you ll ever wear look up CWB tourq hinge bindings, there almost step in bindings

    you can get in them with out lube or water

    ez on off dry or wet best bindings i ever bought.

    and for boards just what ever you like style wise kept in the size range i said and with a CONTINUES rocker.
    You should be fine.

    3 stage is more agressive, more pop.

    Continous is more stable for just riding, but less explosive.

    There are variations are the two.

    Go continous if you just wanna ride as stated above.^^.

    Go 3 stage if you want to jump the wake.You won't have a lot to begin with and the continous won't get you very far off the water.

    What is the meaning of RVR model of pontoon boat?

    I own a 24 ft pontoon boat and it say RVR on the title as make and model. what does that mean, it also has AL under that..What is the meaning of RVR model of pontoon boat?
    Runway Visual Range

    Runway Visual Range

    (RVR) is a term used in aviation meteorology to define the distance over which a pilot of an aircraft on the centreline of the runway can see the runway surface markings delineating the runway or identifying its centre line. It is normally expressed in feet or metres.

    It is used as one of the main criteria for minima on instrument approaches, as in most cases a pilot must obtain visual reference of the runway to land an aircraft. The maximum RVR reading is 2,000 metres or 6,500 feet, above which it is not significant and thus does not need to be reported. RVRs are provided in METARs and are transmitted by air traffic controllers to aircraft making approaches to allow pilots to assess whether it is prudent and legal to make an approach.

    Originally RVR was measured by a person, either by viewing the runway lights from the top of a vehicle parked on the runway threshold, or by viewing special angled runway lights from a tower at one side of the runway. The number of lights visible could then be converted to a distance to give the RVR. This is known as the human observer method and can still be used as a fall-back.

    Today most airports use Instrumented Runway Visual Range or IRVR, which is measured by devices called transmissometers which are installed at one side of a runway relatively close to its edge. Normally three are provided, one at each end of the runway and one at the mid-point.

    How do you register a pontoon boat? Without the original owner at hand?

    I just bought a Smoker Craft Pantoon boat , but I'm stuck on how to get it legal? I don't believe that it has ever been registered before,because it's practiclly brand new no stickers or nothing. So how would I go about getting my problem solved? PLEASE HELP!!!How do you register a pontoon boat? Without the original owner at hand?
    Take the signed title which should have the hull and engine number and your signed bill of sale to prove purchase price to the local DMV (or who ever does it in your area) and get it transferred and registered in your name. Even brand new it should have stickers received by the first owner, so unless you are buying it new from a boat shop, get what is needed from the owner, or get your money back.How do you register a pontoon boat? Without the original owner at hand?
    You need to get a bill of sale with the boat's hull number on it. Transfering the trailer is the same as transfering a car. You do it with the dmv. The bill of sale for the boat must be noterized and taken to a wildlife representitive. Most boat dealers can do it for you.How do you register a pontoon boat? Without the original owner at hand?
    All boats have a registration! Mine is a 1968 and I have a registration for it! I'm sure its a state by state issue but would think all require a registration (or title on newer models)! If you can't get the paper work I would be suspect that it may be stolen property! If that's the case, you need to contact your local PD and let them do the research so you don't get charged with any crimes! Whether or not its been registered previously doesn't change the circumstances!

    How would i hook up an inverter on a pontoon boat?

    How much lighting are you planning on? And why are you using 120 VAC? You can use 12 volt flood lights which are cheaper and easier. A 5kw voltage inverter will suck both of those those batteries dead in about 20 minutes! Most in that size draw 300 amps with 12 vdc. You'd be better of getting a Honda Generator. I'd go with 12volt dc lights rather than ac lighting.

    I have a pontoon boat with a 50 HP Mercury motor on it and am thinking about replacing it with a 115 HP Mercur?

    Mercury motor. Is there going to be a problem since the boat is only rated for a 90 HP. Is the weight difference between a 115 and a 90 significant?I have a pontoon boat with a 50 HP Mercury motor on it and am thinking about replacing it with a 115 HP Mercur?
    1. Chances are that going up one notch in motor size above your rating will be OK. This is especially true if you live at altitude like Colorado. It is commonplace to get the next size up engine above the rating to make up for the power loss at elevation. 2. Previous suggestion of adding 3/4 plywood to your transom a good one and not too complicated to do 3. Be really careful driving at higher speeds especially during choppy water until you see if your pontoons will need addittional "lift" at the noses.I have a pontoon boat with a 50 HP Mercury motor on it and am thinking about replacing it with a 115 HP Mercur?
    Hi,

    It all depends on how many cylinder the engines are. If they are both the old straight 6 cylinder engines then they weigh the same anyway.

    You can always screw a square peice of 3/4" ply onto the back of your transom (level with the top) before fitting the engine if you have any doubts, as this will add extra stength to your transom and spread the load. I usually cut the ply so that it sticks out between 3 and 4 inches either side of the engine saddle and a couple of inches at the bottom.

    Hope this helps, Mark.I have a pontoon boat with a 50 HP Mercury motor on it and am thinking about replacing it with a 115 HP Mercur?
    The power and performance is significant.

    The rating is based on the transom's capability.

    If you put too much on a boat that is not made for it,

    you might damage to structure.

    Stay within the manufacturer's specs.

    Is the Sun Tracker Party Barge 20 a good pontoon boat?

    Also, does Sun Tracker really have a no haggle policy? If it says $12,000 does really mean that is what I am going to pay for it?Is the Sun Tracker Party Barge 20 a good pontoon boat?
    I love mine.Is the Sun Tracker Party Barge 20 a good pontoon boat?
    Sun Tracker are on the very low end of pontoons. Also - since they are in a way a "mail order" boat, you would need to make sure you have a good marina around for any work. I would look into Godfrey Pontoons or Bennington - Godfrey has a line called Tuscany that is relative in price, but over all much better quality. A VERY important thing to look at when buying a pontoon is the welds (since this holds the boat together) and the deck and beams, and whether they are thru bolted. You will notice on a Sun Tracker the welds are rough - they are usually full length welds (opposed to spot welds), which can cause problems down the road. If you are looking to spend 12K go check out Godfrey and Bennington, you will thank me in a few yearsIs the Sun Tracker Party Barge 20 a good pontoon boat?

    I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about. My best guess is that what you need is polyurethane foam. Just google it, it's easy to find, and relatively cheap. Small quantities (usually of the high-expansion variety) are available at hardware stores in aerosol cans. A common brand name is Great Stuff.

    Who makes a pontoon boat with an inboard engine?

    I am interested in buying a pontoon boat with and inboard engine or adapting one myself.Who makes a pontoon boat with an inboard engine?
    JC pontoons make the Evolution 260. There are a couple others that make them. This boat have up to a 320 hp inboard, but comes standard with the MerCruiser 4.3L (190 hp). MerCuriser is the highest quality I/O you can buy. The cost of maintance, however, is higher with an inboard. Another option you could look at is a deck boat. the deack boat is a pontoon top with a v hull. They are easier to find used and have a higher top speed potentional with the v-hull.

    How do you start a Pontoon?

    I'm doing research for a story I'm writing, and I need to know specifically about a pontoon boat. Like, a really old one, really small. I would like to know how to start it, and maybe how fast they go? I've been on something similar before, but I'm not so sure it was actually a pontoon.How do you start a Pontoon?
    Tessa had to get away. She ran to the old Starcraft Pontoon boat, untied it as she lept aboard. She quickly squeezed the fuel bulb enough times to get gas to the old Johnson 10 horse. No electric start on this old tub, she made sure the shift lever was in neutral, pushed the throttle forward, pulled the choke and gave the starter cord a strong pull. The trusty old motor sprang to life, she pushed in the choke, ran to the drivers seat, shifted into forward and jammed the throttle (lever all the way forward. The motor made a lot of noise and the little pontoon took off, quickly reaching its top speed of 13 miles per hour. (no key needed on old manual start motor)
    Prime the motor by squeezing the rubber bulb in the fuel line.

    Need pylon for pontoon boat for skiing and wakeboarding?

    What is the best type? I've seen a retractable single tube, a tripod setup, and larger cage styles. We've tried a cage style (4 anchor points) in the past, but the rear wall got in the way. I need something that will get the rope up above the motor. Right now, we're just using the two clip points on the rear corners. This makes the rope drag through the water, is very close to the motor, and makes getting up on a wakeboard pretty difficult. Any ideas?Need pylon for pontoon boat for skiing and wakeboarding?

    What is the best cleaner for cleaning mold off vinyl seats on a pontoon boat?

    I have tried grease lightning, mean green, etc.... nothing gets it off easily.What is the best cleaner for cleaning mold off vinyl seats on a pontoon boat?
    I would NOT recommend using bleach. If you would like to find out more about why you shouldn't use bleach check out this link:

    http://www.moldrx4u.com/poisons.asp

    Instead use something like white vinegar or you can get a natural cleaner that has been scientifically proven to kill and remove mold and keep it from coming back for at least a year or two. You can find the cleaner either through a local distributor of Young Living products or on the site I reference above.

    If you use the cleaner just dilute it 10:1 (water to cleaner), so that you can get your moneys worth out of it, and spray it on the seat cushions let sit for a few minutes and then you should be able to wipe it off completely without a lot of work.
    Those are both worth trying - if the mold is heavy as its been for me on my vinyl seats, I have had to go a little stronger and use some cleaner with a small amount of bleach in it - you can even add a few drops of bleach to a small container of water and sponge it on - use as little bleach as possible as it is a damaging chemical. Afterward I rinse it really clean several times with clear water, and then when dry top it off with a couple good coats of a vinyl protectant like Armor All. This keeps it moist and clean and prevents cracking in the vinyl.What is the best cleaner for cleaning mold off vinyl seats on a pontoon boat?

    What kind of hardware do I need to attach a motor mount to a small pontoon boat.?

    The deck surface is horizontal and the motor mount needs to be vertical and sturdy. I know not to attach anything to the edge of the plywood, so I need some sort of bracket to do this. Thank you.What kind of hardware do I need to attach a motor mount to a small pontoon boat.?
    Fir this you need a couple of angle brackets as well as some marine grade plywood. The angle brackets will allow the plywood to be attached so that it's vertical. Fasten it with about a dozen stainless steel bolts with lock washers to make sure the nuts don't spin off as well as fender washers to distribute the stress.

    What is the best way to mount a 2.5 hp outboard to a small (2 person) pontoon boat?

    Place the motor on the stern with the transom between the clamps. Tighten.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "The pontoon boat is basically a piece of plywood on floats. ... The pontoon boat doesn't have a vertical surface like the transom of a regular boat."
    LOL, figured it was something like that...sorry for being such a smart-@$$.
    For the transom itself, two pieces of 3/4" exterior grade plywood joined with a high-quality epoxy, and covered with a layer of fiberglass cloth would be strong and durable. Two pieces glued together makes a stronger board than a solid piece of hardwood or a single piece of plywood the same thickness.
    If fiberglass is too much trouble, there are other solutions for protecting wood from the elements -- if you don't do something it'll start to delaminate quickly.
    I'd visit the hardware store for a couple stainless steel L-brackets (shelf brackets for example -- that's not a whole lot of weight) for mounting. Better get four. Thru-bolt the brackets to your pontoon platform first, two on top, two underneath.
    Getting your transom at the right height might be a trial %26amp; error process. Think about drilling several sets of holes.
    Use stainless steel fasteners if longevity is a factor. For best results, pre-drill the holes a little larger than you need, fill 'em with epoxy, then drill through the cured epoxy. That will isolate the wood from the elements. At the very least, coat the bolts with 3m 5200 when you install 'em. You don't want water getting to the interior of your plywood.
    That's what I'd do. At least, it's what I'd set out to do. What I ended up with might be different.....you know how it goes....What is the best way to mount a 2.5 hp outboard to a small (2 person) pontoon boat?
    Its hard to answer this not knowing what the boat is like, but i would suggest mounting it on the back/ transom obviously and somewhere strong, reinforced with metal preferably or wood.
    What is the best pontoon boat?
    We are looking to buy a used pontoon boat and having trouble finding reviews from owners. We are considering a Suntracker or a Monark. Any suggestions?? Thanks!What is the best pontoon boat?
    boats in general, and more so with pontoon boats, there are only so many ways to build a boat, and very few material choices.
    the big differences tend to be in floor layouts, how the interior or the deck is laid out. what type of seats, and where are they.
    and in what powers it, which can be different between two of the same make, model and year depending on what the dealership that sold it dealt with.
    mercury is the most common one, having more sales then anybody else has that effect.
    but even if two of same make, model and year both have the same brand powering it, the hull may be rated for 90 hp and one of them the person buying it paid for the 90 hp while the other one only got the cheaper 60 hp.
    ultimately, what you need to be concerned with is how well it was cared for.
    you need to do two things BEFORE purchasing ANY used boat:
    1. a mechanical inspection performed by a qualified marine mechanic. think of going to your doctor for a physical to make sure you dont have a heart attack next week, its basically doing that for your motor.
    you will be paying for this out of pocket, its about $100. if the boat tests poorly, you are out that money, but you arent stuck owning a boat that may need thousands in work before it can be used.....
    2. on the water test drive. actually get it out on the water and DRIVE IT.
    without actually putting it in the water, there are things even the best mechanic can miss. but those things become painfully obvious once you get on the water and try to go.
    and once you do own it, make sure you know how and when to maintain it properly, and that it is up to date on all its maintaince.
    very common for somebody to buy a used boat that is due or coming due soon for some routine maintaince that they dont know about, and they end up doing thousands in damage.
    one of the "favorites" is the impeller, which is changed every 100 hours OR 3 years, half the time the boat sat for a couple years before being put up for sale and that is impeller is just waiting to fail.
    impeller is what pumps water into the motor to cool it with, when it fails your entire cooling system fails and you can easily cook the motor.
    A Catamaran is very different than a pontoon. A Pontoon boat size range is about 15ft up to around 50 feet and just about all have outboard motors. There are several different types of pontoon Boats but most have 2 aluminum pontoons with a deck on top. Catamarans can be much larger and usually have inboard motors inside the pontoon along with storage. Catamarans can reach great speeds on open oceans and some larger catamarans have wave pearsing hulls that cut through the waves Like butter.     Is a short axel, fits between pontoons, pontoon boat trailer safe on the interstate- with an 18 ft boat on it?
    Great trailer and doesn't take up near as much space as the Bass Tracker trailer. I traded my 1994 24' bass Tracker trailer where the boat sits on top of the carpeted bunks for one where the bottom of the hull rests on the trailer. It lower to the ground, but easier to launch anywhere. These have the tires that are designed originally for the heavy forklifts and with that short, narrow axle; don't have a problem in tight turn areas. Also, when the boat if off the trailer and at my dock; storage space is only 4' wide X 24" long. The tracker trailer takes up 9' wide X 24 ' long. Much smoother ride on the freeway and not sitting so high up in the air and causing a wind drag. Better deal all the way around. Just remember when entering or exiting gas stations; go easy over the dips and you'll have no problems.Is a short axel, fits between pontoons, pontoon boat trailer safe on the interstate- with an 18 ft boat on it?
    I've had one for 5 years with a 17' Sylvan Pontoon. I do mostly local hauling but twice a year we pull 200+ miles. No problem till I blew a wheel bearing. I put it in the shop %26amp; had dual axles installed. Simply too much weight for a single light duty axle. As for towing, it towed like a dream as long as the fore/aft balance was right. I put about 200 lbs of tongue weight on. I can't tell any difference between the single %26amp; dual axle setup except when backing. The single axle responded quicker to steering input when launching. Strong crosswinds are a problem, but that's true no matter what you haul, Ask any semi driver. Bottom line-Make sure the axle is rated for the load, balance the load, tie it down so it can't shift. Carry a spare %26amp; go buy yourself a small floor jack. You can't jack the trailer up with your car/truck jack unless its one of those scissors jacks %26amp; they only serve to get folks hurt. They tend to collapse to the side! You don't want to know how I know this!
    Well is the water you will be on shallow?? or deep enough to have a long shaft--if the shallow water hits the prop--it's good bye pin and your day is ruined.     be sure the cavitation plate is below water surface. this insures proper flow of water for cooling and prop propulsion.
  • Can my Deep V boat trailer be made to handle a pontoon boat?
    I have a 15'6" old aluminum Deep V fishing boat and we are looking at an old 16' aqua patio but we'll need to trailer it. Will a standard 2 rail crank up galvinized trailer hold this safely?Can my Deep V boat trailer be made to handle a pontoon boat?
    Pontoon trailers are "different'. You would be better off looking for a pontoon trailer. If your only going to use it once, to get the aqua patio to your lake, I'd bolt a couple long boards on the current trailer, tie the boat down really well, and safely move it. Keep in mind that the wheel base would be narrower and `it will be tippy, but by being extra careful, it'll work for a short distance.Can my Deep V boat trailer be made to handle a pontoon boat?
    If you reconfigure the bunks to support the load you should be ok.. The sizes seem similar, but will the weight be in the same range. You may need to install larger tires.Hope you have a friend that can weld.Be sure to account for prop and outdrive clearance to the rear. Hope this helps Jim.
    What is the top speed of a 21ft pontoon boat with a 90hp outboard?
    looking at buying a 21ft suntracker with a 90hp Force outboard, prop is in perfect condition - I do not know the pitch of the prop.What is the top speed of a 21ft pontoon boat with a 90hp outboard?
    This should actually move pretty quick. My brother-in-law has a pontoon boat about that size with a 70hp on it and it does about 20 to 25mph.
    With the 90hp I suspect you could ALMOST reach 30 depending upon conditions and prop pitch. In any case you should be able to pull a 'small' skier (100lbs or so).
    Hope this answers the question.What is the top speed of a 21ft pontoon boat with a 90hp outboard?
    I was in a Coast Guard class today . and the instructor was talking about his boat a pontoon with 3 pontoons the middle
    one was higher that the two outside ones he said he had a 90 hp 0n it and it could do almost 35 mph I missed it when he said the make of the boat .
    Does anyone know a link or have plans to build your own mini pontoon boat?
    I've looked around online a little and havent come up with much. Im lookin to build my own boat to fish from mostly something in the 12'-14' range. Plus it would just be cool to say "hey i built that". Many thanks for any help. Oh and also free plans are even better.Does anyone know a link or have plans to build your own mini pontoon boat?
    No, you won't find much online. Free plans are a waste of time, I'm afraid, they're often incomplete. Your best bet is to buy some design software and draw up your plans yourself. It's much easier than you think and it would be better to be able to say "hey I DESIGNED and built that!" The software I use is under $40 and it's superb. I've put a link below to where I got mine from.Does anyone know a link or have plans to build your own mini pontoon boat?
    Before I planned to build my own pontoon, because I love boating. But now that I have my own inflatable boat, I am contented with it. At least I will not have a hard time planning to build my own pontoon boat. Though I agree with you that it would really be cool to tell everyone that the boat you are riding on is your creation.Does anyone know a link or have plans to build your own mini pontoon boat?
    Depending on how elaborite you want to get, I built one from drums and plywood. Put some carpet over top of the wood and some railings. Pick any engine you want and poof, pontoon boat
    What size and type anchor for a 20' pontoon boat located on a lake with many bottom obstructions?
    The mushroom anchors I have just don't seem to do the trick in windy conditions.Also what is the rule of thumb for how much anchor line to use? What type of anchors require a chain?What size and type anchor for a 20' pontoon boat located on a lake with many bottom obstructions?
    Still nothing beats a standard Danforth anchor for hold on most varieties of bottoms. You can use a modified version in 7 lbs. Typical line is a combo of chain and rope. The chain should be at least the length of the boat and I'd carry at least 100' of 3/8" rope tied to the chain. For windy conditions you should be using a minimum of 5 to 1 scope. That means in windy conditions you'd have just enough rode for 20' depth of water with 5 to 1 scope on the lake and not have to worry about breaking anchorage.
    your pontoon boat has a lot of windage especially if it has a top on it. there are several types of anchors that will do a better job of anchoring your pontoon. my preference would be a 4.4 lb bruce style anchor, its an great all around anchor that sets fast and resets if it breaks loose. the flukes are much stronger than a danforth, so they a less likely to get bent if the anchor is hung up on tree limbs. this style has a hole in the front of the anchor that allows a trip line to be attached for easy retrieval.
    the most popular anchor is the danforth for your boat a 8S or 5H is the proper size. Danforth anchors are easy to stow and will do a good job of anchoring your boat but can be hard to retrieve if they get hung up on trees etc.(voice of experience).
    along with the proper size anchor you will also need chain and line. it is recommended that you have at least 6' of 3/16" chain (more is better) and 3/8" line. for windy conditions a 7:1 scope will give you 70% holding power. for 20' of water depth, 6' to 12' of chain and at least 150' of nylon rope.
    for an anchor to work, pull to the site you want to anchor in, slowly drop the anchor, chain and line over the side of the boat (keep the other end of the line tied to the boat), allow the line to play out until proper scope has been reached, and then set the anchor by pulling hard on the anchor line or backing against the anchor line until it holds.
    hope this helpsWhat size and type anchor for a 20' pontoon boat located on a lake with many bottom obstructions?
    Minimum scope for that windage in fresh conditions is 5:1, 8:1 would be significantly more secure and 10:1 is not unreasonable either.
    A simple additional lead plug run down the scope with a lighter line to a stainless ring until the weight is just on the bottom can greatly improve the holding of a short rode - it transfers the effort to your anchor pretty much horizontally for a start, and improves hold by a significant factor. This can be very useful in restricted anchorages, and saves getting a long rode hanging up on underwater snags as the boat sails from side to side with wind shifts etc.
    Use chain the length of the boat minimum.
    In Australia we us a SARCA anchor a lot - very effective on most bottoms, and I found you can get it back from an igneous gniess rock shelf in 22 metres!
    you don't give the weight or windage of your boat, both are important. 20lb cqr or danforth, 10meters of chain 3/8ths link. put a trip to avoid losing your tackle ie thin strong cord tied to top of anchor shaft, above the flukes , enough cord for depth and put a buoy on the end. If the anchor fouls pull in on the trip line
    amount of warp, forget the chain, thats additional security. 5 times depth of waterWhat size and type anchor for a 20' pontoon boat located on a lake with many bottom obstructions?
    A danford still and connect the line to the from of the flukes with wire ties to the shank so all u do is run past the anchor and the wire ties break and the anchor comes up backwards and releases itself.
    Try a 20lb river anchor.
    I am trying to start a business from a pontoon boat and want to know some ideas about how to power appliances.?
    I want to run all at once: a mini fridge, mini freezer, and a few other small appliances. What do I need to know about inverters, generators, propane, batteries, solar panels, etc... ? Any good business advice? How do I make this idea work? What are things to consider if I want to sell food and other stuff?I am trying to start a business from a pontoon boat and want to know some ideas about how to power appliances.?
    Keep in mind, boats and any food / alcohol service have strict guidelines and regulations.
    You could probably get some large battery packs charged by a generator. Look at other people who have similar setups. You could probably find out a lot by looking at an ice cream truck.I am trying to start a business from a pontoon boat and want to know some ideas about how to power appliances.?
    I tell you what, first go find somebody that's already doing it, and ask your questions. You want to run a restaurant from a boat? Put a gas operated generator in your engine bilge, and drop your electric cords down there, you don't want the smoke/smell of generator wrecking your sales. You'll need a very large Solar panel to run a mini fridge! Go check your specifications.
  • Is there anything that I need to consider when building a pontoon boat?
    Anything as far as bouyancy? Can I have too much bouyancy? I am planning on using 55 gallon plastic drums filled with expanding foam.Is there anything that I need to consider when building a pontoon boat?
    will it float? how about when you add 10 people to the deck?
    what are you making the deck out of? what hp engine? what type of seating?Is there anything that I need to consider when building a pontoon boat?
    yes there is.
    a 55 gallon drum has about 400 #s of flotation.
    (55 * 7.5 - weight of the drum)
    if you were to use 4 of them, one at each corner of your boat, and you put 5 people in one corner, your boat would be in trouble, to say the least.
    at worst, it could top over.
    if this is a real project, you need to put a railing inside the outline of the drums such that it's not possible that 1 single drum will come anywhere close to having to support the entire weight of all of the occupants of the boat.
    Stability, strength, seaworthiness, power, hydrodynamics. How are you going to attach plastic drums together?
    Consider buying one instead huckleberryIs there anything that I need to consider when building a pontoon boat?
    Are you going to put a motor on this ? more than a 5HP or trolling motor ? sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen,,,
    there is more to building a pontoon boat than
    floating a piece of plywood accross the lake
    for the cost you will be putting into this you can
    buy a used pontoon boat even if you have to rebuild it. get one with numbers and tubes that at least are airo dinamic and wont come apart
    on the lake. for a pier yes for a boat no.
    If you are doing this while spending less money. Try filling the drums with plastic 2 liter soda bottles. Or the smaller ones. These can be had for free. Maybe you can also find some old house doors you can use for the floor. Enjoy your boat. Please spend some money on safety stuff.
    Plastic barrels can not be fastened together satisfactorily because of the flexible nature of plastic. Pontoons built from steel barrels must be welded together because the force of the pontoon going through the water will cause any bolts to tear out through the holes.
    A better choice would be find a military salvage place and pick up a pair of old aircraft drop tanks. They are all one piece and aerodynamically shaped already. I have seen several pontoon boat built using those.
