Will pontoon boats get water in the pontoons, they have drain plugs in them?

You shouldn't have much if any leakage with the new ones as stated above. The older models leaked, which is why drain plugs were a handy thing. They used to be aluminum joined with rivets. Rivets and riveted joints tend to leak with use. Old pontoon boats leak big time! Newer models are all welded and should be sealed unless damaged.|||New Pontoons have multiple chambers in each Pontoon and each individual chamber is pressure tested to make sure they are air/water tight. New Pontoons do not have drains (nor do old ones) - even though on some you may see things that look like drains, they are not (especially if you notice those "drains" are never on the bottom of the pontoon...) The only way you are getting water in your pontoons is if there is a crack somewhere, and that is a quick and easy weld for a fix. I worked on Pontoon boats for some time and in the case of a leaking Pontoon we would pull the boat out of the water - find the whole, tilt the pontoon up so water drains to the back - drill a small drain whole in the pontoon to drain, then weld the crack and your drain whole - not a big deal, and can be done quickly|||most pontoon's are completely sealed to prevent water from entering them. Occasionally you will see a pontoon with a plug near the top so that when turned over it can be drained.|||Really as stated they do not. There may be a small amount of moisture that was trapped inside when they were made and it may condense to water. If, you wanted to try to drain it to see, I never have, so, this speculation, but, do it when the Humidity is low and around the time Dew forms on the ground (Dew Point). This usually on the Weather for your area. My reasoning, and it my be wrong; the Dew Point is when the outside temperature causes condensation, so, this be when water would drain most and not be like a steam. With the Humidity low it would make for the best conditions for as much water as possible to drain out. I may be wrong. Also, water would not hurt anything, unless you notice you boat sinking to one side more than normal, which would mean the a leak in the pontoon from damage.

If, I removed a plug, I would wrap it with some Teflon Tape when screwing back in to help prevent it from taking in water.
