Has anyone put a jet ski motor into the pontoons of a pontoon boat?

I have a pontoon boat, and have been thinking that if you dropped a jet ski motor/impeller pack into the pontoon on each side, you could get close to 500 HP with the weight below the water line. Combine it with a T handle for direction control and steering, and the boat could do a pivot steer or even sidle to the dock. What do you think?Has anyone put a jet ski motor into the pontoons of a pontoon boat?
The idea is fine, but the jet units will be very inefficient at the likely speeds you will get from this project. The basic advantage of that type of jet unit is based on a fairly narrow weight and top speed ratio, they are optimised for this particular function and nothing else. The intake, stator vanes and drive impellor will need changing to attempt to gain back the efficiencies. There are good jet units available off the shelf that allow differing gear ratios and impellor combinations depending on your engine choice - Castaldi for one. By far the cheapest option is to fit two large outboards (if the design can cope with them) but if you have nothing better to do and the money....

Yes two jets and a skilled operator will have some creative handling options - but you are still talking about a catamaran of sorts, and they are always going to resist any sideways force far more than a monohull. It's just part of the package with a multi-hull at near zero speed when trying to get them to dance. In a serious cross wind they still are quite painfull regardless of jet drives or otherwise - that's when powerful bow and stern thrusters are actually worth the hype.
I am sure it has already been done. I saw a jet ski motor in a john boat.

Btw jet ski motors do put out 250hp and more.

Yamaha fzr 1.8L 4-stroke superchargered regular gas biggest pwc motor - 210hp

Kawasaki 300x 1.5L 4-stroke supercharged prem. gas most horsepower - 300hp

Sea-doo RTX-260 1.5L 4-stroke supercharged prem. gas - 260hp

Honda aquatrax F-15x (2009, Honda hasnt made a pwc since) 1.5L 4-stroke turbocharged prem. gas 200hpHas anyone put a jet ski motor into the pontoons of a pontoon boat?
it's a novel idea, and just might work well.my concern would be sealing the pontoon breach and keeping it sealed.twin outboards on brackets would work better, be cheaper and easier to install and maintain. i saw where some guy put two 3 liter mercs on one and set the speed record at just over 70 mph.
Eeek! Why don't you just put a single outboard engine on the back. You'll also have to coordinate throttle thrust. What two JS motors amount to 500 hp? I don't know of any that small. Also consider that if it is that small, then it's a two cylinder, which is not allowed on all waterways. Good luck and boat safe.Has anyone put a jet ski motor into the pontoons of a pontoon boat?
500hp can't get that out of a big block chevy but give it a try U will need 2 as there are 2 toons
i forget what it is called, but there is a prototype boat that is powered in a fashion very similiar to what you are talking about that is in use already.
pretty sure it was a discovery channel show.

its apontoon boat, with a cabin suspended way up high, kinda like a bridge mounted on two shores over a river. dual motors, inline with the pontoons, but in a seperate part with a hinge to it that allows it to go up and down with the waves.
it was intended as a carrier ship, i think meant to carry small science type subs. drive right over it and lift it up out of the water.

i really wish i could remember the name of it or the program i saw on it on.
seemed like an improvement over your typical pontoon boat.
and would probably be an excellent thing for you to look at.

not sure how it steered though. i dont think it was all thrust steering (not sure if it was even jet drive propulsion), but i dont if it had rudders or where they were either.

does seem that attaching dual engine pods inline with the pontoons would be easier then opening up the pontoons and later resealing them around everything that must pass through.
would require a longer trailer, probably specially built or modified.

although, my main concern would be total weight limit, balance of weight (definetly be a bit rear heavy), and providing something solid enough for the push on it, as i doubt the pontoons themselves are designed to have even 50 hp pushing directly on them.

BTW, you are waying overestimating the power of your typical jet ski.
1.8 liter motors, even supercharged, dont put out 250 hp each. not on regular pump gas, and that kind of power would be INSANE on something so small and light.
i'm having diffuculting finding the acutal power listed in the specs of 2011 yamaha and sea doo waverunners, but its more like 150 hp or LESS.
much like a motorcycle, 100 hp is a lot more then you think whne you arent moving a ton or two worth of vehicle too.
i.e, my 16' alum hull goes 40 mph, more if i propped up and unloaded teh fishing gear, with just 60 hp.

I have a very nice yacht you can use. Very well appointed with designer padded walls. How many pieces of cargo, I, errr mean guests will you need room for. How much luggage will be involved. I need a little help with delivering my special 'baby powder' products. So I might have to swing by Columbia on the way. Hope that's ok..
If you don't want the hassle of the 'cargo', you could just rip the roof off of your grass hut and float on over to Ho Chi Minh City.

Will my 20ft pontoon boat be ok in a wet slip at the lake all winter?

I live in Texas, and the slip my boat is in is on Lake Tawakoni. I plan on changing my lower unit oil and grease, and more than likely getting a tune up done. If it will be fine in the water over the winter should I trim the motor all the way up or down? I have a 50 hp Nissan outboard motor. Will my 20ft pontoon boat be ok in a wet slip at the lake all winter?
If the lake never freezes you shouldn't have a problem. If the lake freezes you could still leave the boat in, but you'd need a bubbler system that will prevent the ice from crushing the hull. As far as storing the engine you want to store it in the down position if your counting on the hydraulics to hold it up out of the water. Using the hydraulics all winter is likely to damage the seals around the piston, and could cause premature failure. This is true on a trailer as well. If you can find a way of raising the engine and then using a wooden block or a pin on the engine to support the weight of the engine. You could then remove the pressure from the hydraulic system and store the engine in the up position just fine. You just might want to apply a little extra grease to the exposed section of the piston that's left exposed.

Can My landlord evict me or harass me because i have a pontoon boat on the property?

I have a 26 foot pontoon boat and I rent my home. I acquired the boat after I moved in. It looked really bad when I first got it and I have been fixing it up. I still have to put furniture and a motor on it. I have had it for six months. It has set beside the garage in the yard for six months and i have spent probably 4,000 dollars so far fixing it. There is a small patch of gravel behind the garage and it doesn't fit there. The grass where it sits is not dead. It doesn't look unsightly. One of the stipulations in the lease was that the property had to be kept in a sightly manner. It looks good and 200% better than before. My yard is not cluttered. My landlord is forever leaving me notes or dropping by and saying that there are to be no boats on the property. It does not say this in the lease. I am trying my hardest to finish it. I expect that it will take at least another few months to complete and a couple thousand dollars. I had a one year lease and have lived hear for 1yr 5mos.HelpCan My landlord evict me or harass me because i have a pontoon boat on the property?
You should have asked permission BEFORE you brought the boat home and you would not be in the situation you are now. BUT, you don't need to hear that now, do you?

How can the grass that the boat sits on not be dead? It has to be dead under there. Obviously the landlord thinks the boat is "UN SLIGHTLY". Your lease has been fulfilled so if the landlord wants to evict you, he can do so by serving you with a 30 day notice to vacate.

If you have been a good tenant, other than the boat, maybe he will allow you to keep the boat there until it is finished. Perhaps you should attempt making a deal with him, especially if you are a good tenant. Tell him you have no other place to take it or work on it. Give him an in writing time that you agree to have it off the property, finished or not. Then offer him a bit more rent for the problem you are causing him and agree to pay it each month until the boat is launched and gone from his yard.

Other than that, I don't have any suggestions. EXCEPT I don't know many rentals that will allow you to keep a boat on the property, ESPECIALLY a boat you are working on.........You really should make the guy a deal he can't refuse and you will both benefit. Maybe he'll even join you for a beer on the boat when it is finished.................Good Luck......
Read your lease. The answer lies therein. Can My landlord evict me or harass me because i have a pontoon boat on the property?
I doubt that he'll try to evict you before the lease is up. If he does, take pictures of the property so you can show that it is in good order. In fact, I'd be careful to keep it that way so he can't catch it on a bad day and take photos himself.

My guess is that, when your lease is up, you're gone. You might want to start scoping out a place a couple of months before.
yup they own the property they make the rules. Can My landlord evict me or harass me because i have a pontoon boat on the property?
What does your lease say about boat storage? If it says nothing then the landlord has no legal reason to evict you. But just to make sure, pay a consultation fee and ask a lawyer.
Your lease is up, if you don't like the harassment move.
It depends on "How the wording" in your lease is stated. If it was Me. My first call would be an attorney.
Depends where you live I guess. The house may be some in some sort of community that has rules. My parents live in a community that bans boats outside, but you can have it in the garage.

Best bet, talk sensibly with the landlord. See if he is getting pressure to remove it. Let him know you understand his concern but it is ALMOST done...

If he just doesn't like the look of it, well, I would say it is none of his damn business. He may be trying to sell the property (no big surprise these days), and the site of it may turn off potential buyers.

If that is the case, I would start asking some questions as to how and when he plans on paying you to vacate the premises...$$$$$$

Every city has it's own laws designed to protect renters from landlords. It is not just a matter of "I'm the landlord and I make the rules". Could you imagine how many people would be homeless, and how many landlords would be targets of retribution?

It is more of a business relationship and laws are there to protect both the landlord interests AND the tenant.
Okay..NOAH..ya got some inside info on the next flood? Ya havent started loading the animals yet ...have ya?
If it's on the property there may be city ordinances against it. Why don't you have an discussion with your landlord and work towards a resolution? Your lease probably doesn't say anything about restoring aircraft in your front yard either so keep an open mind.

I believe most courts would agree that having a boat or other items out on the property longterm constitutes a violation in keeping the property "sightly".
As others have said, it depends on the lease. Additionally, if the property is in a property owners/ home owners association, most have rules against parking a boat, rv etc in a driveway for more than a few days. It could also be against local zoning rules. Ultimately, the landlord will get the fine and he has every right and duty to enforce the rules against you.
Most residential neighborhoods have implied covenants against unsightly things like big boats or RVs or even satellite dishes, even if it's not in the lease. It's usually recorded in the County Recording office in the municipal court. If there is, then the landlord has the right to sue you for damages for having ugly things on the property. However he cannot evict you, as long as you keep paying rent. You should rent a boat slip or parking space at a marina and keep your boat there.

  • How can I easily remove the decals from the side of my pontoon boat?

The boat is older and half the decals are missing already. I want to remove all the remaining decals so that I can prime and repaint, but I'm having a hard time. I've tried a heat gun, Goo Off, Goo Gone, and I can only get tiny pieces off at a time. How can I easily remove the decals from the side of my pontoon boat?
I have used "Wood grain Remover" and it has worked relatively well. It is made by 3M products and is an aerosol spray and can be purchased from any automotive paint supplier or try the larger auto parts. It still has to be worked a little bit, so be patient and let it stay on long enough to work. If you have access to air or power tools 3M also makes a product that is called a "Bristle Disc" and works very well if you don't need to worry about paint removal (re-doing the boat). It will take off decals, but with the paint as well. They come in three different varieties soft, medium, and hard and 1" or 2" diameters. "Good Luck and Happy Boating"!

GOO Gone and a scraper will work. You can also sometimes freeze it then scrape. Freeze by using a can of air for blowing out computers, turn it upside down and spray. Also WD40 and Nail Polish Remover may work.
Heat doesn't seem to be working.

Also, you could try to freeze it. I know that the chemical you spray onto your computer to clean the key board can freeze things. Spray it on and just use a small razor blade to pop it off.How can I easily remove the decals from the side of my pontoon boat?
get a blow dryer (for hair) and heat up the decals as you peel them off. It works great just don't get them too hot as it will tear.
